Official rules and terms
Entry and eligibility
- Entry is free and open to amateur singers.
- Contestants must be at least 18 years old, or meet venue licensing requirements.
- If you don't qualify in a heat, you can re-enter later heats until you secure a spot in the semi-finals.
- Once you've qualified for the semi-finals, you can't compete in any remaining heats.
Performance and song selection
- Choose your track from the official karaoke catalogue at the venue on the night.
- Props and costumes are welcome, as long as they don't cause damage or delay the show.
- Live backing instruments and custom audio tracks on external devices (such as USB) are not allowed, to keep things fair.
Judging: heats
Heats are judged 100% by the official judges.
- 40%Vocal ability and pitch. Accuracy, tone, range and breath control.
- 30%Stage presence and engagement. Energy, confidence, body language and crowd interaction.
- 20%Song choice and interpretation. How well the song suits you and how well you deliver it.
- 10%Overall entertainment value. Performance impact and crowd response.
Judging: semi-finals and grand final
Each contestant's overall score combines the judges' scores (60%) with contestant peer voting (40%).
Peer voting rules
- Each finalist receives an official ballot paper before the round starts.
- After all performances, each finalist ranks their top 3 performers of the night: 1st preference earns 3 points, 2nd earns 2 points and 3rd earns 1 point.
- You can't vote for yourself. A ballot with a self-vote is invalid.
- Every finalist must submit a complete ballot for their own peer points to count toward the round totals.
- Peer voting points are normalised so they make up 40% of each contestant's final combined score.
Code of conduct and integrity
- Show good sportsmanship and respect to fellow performers, judges, host staff and patrons.
- The judges' and organisers' tally calculations are final. Individual scorecards and voting ballots stay confidential.
